Peace Center
The once a month agape meal served at the PC feeds approximately 300 adults and 400 children. The usual meal consists of rice, beans, cassava and sometimes small fish. On special occasions HEARTS FOR THE CONGO has been able to send funds to buy a whole cow, providing much needed protein for their diet.
The local Anglican Church joined with the Peace Center in this endeavor; a journalist reported: :“More than 300 street children in the city of Bunia assisted with food and non-food items by the Rwampara Peace Center of the Anglican Church of Congo/Ituri. Satisfaction from the beneficiaries who thank the Rwampara Peace Center because the assistance came at the right time when there was a need.”
From photos, emails, and phone calls, we know this meal has made a huge difference in the lives of the displaced: not only does it provide valuable nourishment, but it also gives the displaced an opportunity to share worship and emotional support. Those who are fed usually come from Rwampara IDP camp as the other camps are too far away. Our hope is to expand the number who can be fed at the Peace Center or at other locations accessible to those at the other two IDP camps.
Additionally, Bisoke’s ministry to approximately 300 homeless children on the streets in Bunia was initiated in December 2022 when a group of counselors met with the children for a small meal, fellowship and teaching. Intervention is ongoing as funds allow, the most recent in January 2025. This is where they found Jonathan.
