Against the Backdrop of War

Romans 8:38-39(NLT)  I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow - not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Women in Bukavu organized a prayer vigil for peace and protection.

On January 27, 2025, M23 militia from Rwanda invaded Goma, provincial capital of North Kivu Province, 340 miles south of Bunia. Goma, a city of two million, with an additional 650,000 displaced persons, is a humanitarian, transportation, and supply hub for Eastern DRC. M23 then headed to Bukavu, Capital of South Kivu Province.

At this same time Bisoke who had been attending the DRC Anglican Synod in Bukavu was traveling across Lake Kivu to Goma on his return home. Troops and tensions were mounting shutting down the airport. He and his fellow travelers barely escaped using alternate transportation: bus, boat, and on foot.
